What is Dragon Eye Studios?
Dragon Eye Studios is a group that works to create remixes of your favorite games of olde, utilities for those games to make it easier for others to edit them, and even homebrewn games for consoles. |
How do you go about doing this?
We use hex editors or utilities which we or others have made to edit the game ROMs. |
What exactly is a ROM?
A ROM (ROM image) is a copy of a cartridge-based video game. They are dumped onto computers using backup devices and can be run using a program called an emulator, which acts as a specific console and executes the game's code exactly as the original system would do. (Note that dumps of CD-based games are referred to as ISOs) |
Where can I find ROMs?
There's no sense asking this because we simply won't tell you (and asking on the message boards will get you warned and/or banned). Downloading ROMs off of the Internet is illegal, regardless of any of the disclaimers you may see on ROM sites about any sort of '24 hour rule' or that you can download the ROM only if you own the original game. For these reasons, we will not direct you to ROM sites, and are in no way responsible for the method you use to obtain ROM images. |
Where can I find emulators?
Zophar's Domain has just about everything you'd need for emulation; be sure to check it out, since chances are they have what you're looking for. |
How do I use the patches on your site?
As of the current date (8/23/03), the only type of patches available on DES are IPS patches (International Patching System files). You can use an IPS patcher to apply the files to the original ROMs that they are intended for. We recommend that you use Lunar IPS (available at fusoya.cg-games.net) to create and apply IPS patches. It's a very simple process, really, so you shouldn't have any trouble with the actual patching (the main problematic area is with having the correct version of a ROM). DES is currently planning on creating a new patching system to replace IPS because it is such a primitive format. More information on this new system is available on the message boards, and will be added to the DES web site when the file patcher is further along. |
I want to make my own ROMhack, but I don't know how! Any help?
Well, commonly people tend to want to do more than they're capable of in their earlier ROMhacks, such as modifying ASM code and such. We suggest you read The Art of ROM Hacking, a NES ROMhacking document written by Vagla, for help and instructions on hacking ROMs. If you have any questions on the document, or still have questions about ROMhacking after reading the document, feel free to ask on our message boards. There are also other documents in the site's document section which may be of use to you, as well as on Zophar's Domain and other ROMhacking sites. |
I really like Dragon Eye Studios; how can I become a member?
Becoming a DES member is a very challenging thing to do, since we only look for the best of the best. Chances are, there's no point asking us if you can join; if we'd like you in the group, we'll probably contact you about it. |

Well, in this case, you can ask it on our forums. Try to act intelligent on there, please; there are enough people who type 1||<3 7|-|15 such that we can't stand any more and may even completely ignore you if you do such things. |
