Strange, how things work out.

Since I really don't have anything worth mentioning related to DESnet, I figure I'll just post a rant as news. Maybe no one will notice my lack of motivation. :)
In September of 2002, I started to bocome quite interested in ROM hacking. After a few days, posting on ZMD, I was invited to join Dragon Eye Studios. Eventually I decided to join the group. Things quickly became interesting in that Vagla (then the leader of the group) had started to rely on me more, and more. It just seemed like I was inadvertently rising in the ranks. Vagla was often asking for my advice when dealing with certain group issues. A bit odd, I suppose.
Jump ahead and few years and I'm kind of left with the remains of DES. As far as I know, the only three people who had ftp access were Vagla, Weasel and myself. Since Vagla and Weasel are both gone, that left me to take care of things. It's not my most joyous responsibility because I never wanted it.
So what I'm trying to say is I don't know how or why it is that I came to be left in charge of this whole thing, but I should probably do my best to make the most of it. Hopefully this "new" DESnet will reflect upon myself and others like me within the ROM hacking community. Whatever that means! ;D

DESnet Concerns forum
|
02-20-2005
|
The Concerns forum is now open to the public. I wish to thanks everyone who lent a hand in looking over the preliminary DESnet proposal (which was hanled within the Concerns forum). I must also point out that the DESnet proposal is still incomplete, but anyone is now free to look into it, and provide suggestions or bring up any issues.
The DESnet proposal outlines the new direction and goals for DESnet, and will likely see many revisions and addendums throughout the life of DESnet. For those who are unfamiliar with the proposal, it may be worth checking out. Either to see if you are interested in helping, or just to "see what happens". With some plans beginning to roll [slowly], I would expect the group to be on it's feet within the month.

Name Change
|
02-15-2005
|
As you may notice, I have changed the site logo, as well as all instances of "Dragon Eye Studios" which I could find. The new site name has been pseudo-officially changed to "DESnet". The acronym is intentionally left open; it can mean whatever you want it to mean. Personally, I will consider it to mean "Designer's Network". The new DESnet will be a network of designers. Afterall, that is indeed the very essence of ROM hacking.
You may also notice that the copyright page has changed a bit. The original copyright text is still available in the form of a giant HTML comment. This information will be revised to meet the new changes over the course of the DESnet restructuring process.
More information on these changes will be made public as they come to fruition.

Site happenings
|
02-08-2005
|
You know Parasyte must be bored when he goes to clean up some things on DESnet.
I've removed everyone from the staff list, since they are no longer a part of the group. The exception is Weasel, who will be away in Peru for a while longer, and may not have interest in coming back to DESnet. However, if he or any previous members wish to retain their membership, I see no problem in that. I suppose this means we are also accepting new members. To be honest, DESnet's days may be numbered. ROM hacking is on the decline, and little-to-no new talent is showing up. If this keeps up, DESnet is doomed to be an archive; a lonely piece of history.
Now as for these DESnet happenings, I will do a bit more work on the site, and the forums. Maybe even some random advertising. This used to be a nice community, and I'd like to see it regain it's momentum. But I can't pull it off alone. So can I get some help?

We were forced to get rid of the Acmlmboard, so I've switched over to Vystrix Nexoth's Sylphagora. I couldn't find it in me to attempt to convert any threads, posts, or user accounts to this board system, so we're starting all over. The main page will require a little work to integrate with this new board system. So don't expect the site to show up correctly for a while. :)
